NET Trans Inclement Weather Policy: Your Safety Comes First

At NET Trans, the safety of our passengers, drivers, and staff is always our top priority. Winter weather and severe storms can create dangerous travel conditions across our eight-county service area, often affecting some regions while leaving others untouched. Because of this, NET Trans follows a thoughtful, county-by-county approach to determine when and how service adjustments should be made.

Our goal is simple: to continue providing transportation whenever possible, without compromising anyone’s safety.

How We Make Decisions During Inclement Weather

The NET Trans team uses the NET Trans Inclement Weather Procedures Chart as our primary guide. In addition, several key practices support safe and informed decisions:

County-by-County Evaluation

Only in very rare and extreme cases will NET Trans close all eight counties. Instead, each county is evaluated individually so that service can continue in areas where roads remain safe.

Real-Time Road & Weather Assessment

The Transportation Director, Executive Director, and Director of Corporate Operations work together to review:

  • Firsthand road evaluations
  • Updates from local sheriff and police departments
  • Reports from the Tennessee Highway Patrol
  • Current weather forecasts

This ensures we have the most accurate information before making service decisions.

How Service May Be Adjusted

Depending on conditions, NET Trans may use several options to modify operations and protect riders:

1. AM Snow Schedule

Morning routes may be delayed—typically until 10:00 AM—to allow time for roads to improve.

2. PM Snow Schedule

Afternoon or evening services may be canceled so that drivers can return home safely.

3. Clear Roads Only

NET Trans may operate as normally as possible, but avoid roads with unsafe snow, flooding, storm damage, downed power lines, or debris. Drivers report any locations they cannot safely reach.

4. County Closure

A county may be closed entirely when weather conditions or driver availability require it.

5. Complete System Closure

This option is used only for the most severe regional weather events.

How Riders Will Be Notified

Once decisions are made, we communicate changes quickly and clearly.

  • Local TV stations
  • Official NET Trans social media accounts
  • Automated phone calls (IVR system) notifying customers if their trip is canceled or delayed

We recommend customers always verify operating status when inclement weather is expected.

Office & Maintenance Staff Scheduling

Transportation central office and maintenance staff follow their own weather schedule. Supervisors will notify employees directly of any delays or closures.

Our Commitment to You

NET Trans is dedicated to delivering safe, reliable transportation year-round—even when Mother Nature has other plans. Thank you for your patience, cooperation, and understanding during inclement weather events. Your safety matters, and we will always make decisions that reflect that commitment.
